Actor Randy Quaid and wife Evi are in Canada having fled there to what they are telling Vancouver Police was to escape persecution in the U. S. They were arrested at a local luxury resort on a warrant after they failed to show for a Monday court appearance in Santa Barbara, California on an assortment of charges associated with squatting in a Montecito home they contend they own but records show they do not.

They posted bail pending a hearing in a Canadian court. Regardless a Santa Barbara judge has imposed $500,000 bail on the scofflaw pair and local prosecutors are expected to seek extradition.

The ever more quirky Quaids are reportedly seeking asylum that some here think is appropriate but in a different context. According to Associated Press they fear for their lives citing mysterious deaths among their friends and associates.

If they ever show up in Santa Barbara again it likely they will be guest at the County jail unless they can ante the half million dollar bail.
