"Geezer Bandit" Robs 11th Bank

The serial bank robber dubbed the "Geezer Bandit" hit his 11th bank and his first outside of San Diego County Thursday afternoon , according to federal agents.

The Bank of America at 31934 Highway 79 in Temecula reported that the gunman, who appears to be in his 70s, walked into the bank around 1:15 p.m. carrying a leather case which contained a small caliber pistol, FBI spokesperson said. The robber handed a demand note to the teller, brandished the pistol and threatened that he would use it if the teller did not comply with his demands. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money and the robber walked out of the bank, according to authorities.

Foxworth said the "Geezer Bandit" has been linked to 10 other bank robberies throughout San Diego County since August 2009. Thursday's robbery was the first bank in Riverside County hit by the serial bank robber, the FBI said.

"It's crazy, because I don't know how he's avoided being caught all this time, he must be real sneaky," said a witness from the 10th bank robbery.

Throughout the series of robberies, witnesses have described the elderly man as white, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. They've said he had thin oxygen-like tubes leading to his nostrils. He typically wears a baseball cap, sunglasses, dark blazer, dark zip up sweater, carried a dark satchel bag draped over his right shoulder diagonally, worn latex gloves. In Thursday's robbery, photographs released by the FBI showed him carrying a leather case and wearing a white hat, sunglasses and a gray jacket.

The series of holdups attributed to the man have taken place at banks in Temecula, Carmel Valley, La Jolla, the La Playa neighborhood of Point Loma, Rancho Santa Fe, Santee, Poway and Vista.
