$10,000 Bond For Hacker Charged with Extortion In Unusual Case
The FBI has charged a 31-year old Santa Ana, California man with extortion through hacking. He posted a $10,000 appearance bond on condition of home detention and having no use of computers.
The scheme was sophisticated and unusual in-as-much as he did not demand money but sexually explicit videos after he used social networking sites to hack into personal computers and install malicious software to gain access to them and other infected computers.
The computer consutlatn searched the computer files for embarrassing sexual material threatening to expose owners unless they emailed him sexually explicit pictures and videos.
The man broke into and infected over 100 computers used by 250 people including 44 minors mostly girls and women.
U. S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) has put a detainer on the man because he is an illegal alien.
He will have a preliminary hearing July 13 and will be arraigned on July 19. His lawyer says he will plead innocent.
