Quaid's Busted: Released on $100,000 Bail Face 3-Years in Prison
Scofflaw actor Randy Quaid and wife Evi were taken into custody Monday in a Santa Barbara Court room in handcuffs and detained until they each posted a $100,000 bail bond before they were released. The pair thumbed their noses at the local court four times ignoring orders to appear to face charges of defrauding a local resort out of a $10,000 bill.
The pair arrived in court with a lawyer and bail bondsman in tow, and had little to say as the judge chastised them for their contempt of the court.
The Quaid’s allege that the resort had placed a illegal $73,000 hold on their credit card to help it through money woes. The San Ysidro Ranch and Resort and three other hotels including the luxury Santa Barbara Biltmore is owned by local Beanie Baby mogul Ty Warner who has had Bloomberg put 15 classes of bonds backed by $425 million in loans put on a credit watch list when cash flow from the hotels fell 45% below S & Ps expectations.
The Quaid’s are supposed to be back in court Wednesday. They are facing up to 3-years in prison for three felony charges including: defrauding an innkeeper, conspiracy and commercial burglary.
The quirky Quaid’s acting credits include roles in the movies: National Lampoon Vacation, Brokeback Mountain and Independence Day.
