Guinea Pig Skinning Could Land Virginia Davy Crockett Wannabe In Jail

You have to wonder what Fess Parker, who died last week, and famously played Davy Crockett would have thought about a 41-year old Virginia man charged with animal cruelty for skinning a pet guinea pig to make a his version of a Crockett hat.

The man says he killed the guinea pig humanely with a quick cut through the neck and spine. Woodson claims he learned the technique as a graduate student studying biology more than a decade ago.

The guy says the hat was inspired by his admiration of Davy Crockett and that he bought the guinea pig specifically to make the headgear. Reportedly neighbors complained to animal control upon seeing the man wearing the animal’s skin as a hat. Apparently the guy bought the critter to skin and make a hat.

He’ll be tried May 18. He faces up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine if convicted. The man was released on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond.
