But, a man wanted for stealing a car in LA tried leading police on a mid-morning 110 MPH chase on California highway 101 before crashing the SUV he also stole from a grocery store parking lot. In Carpinteria a beach front town south of Santa Barbara. To further complicate his erstwhile escape the man trapped himself by fleeing on a stretch of highway with virtually no exit so, police chasing him south merely radioed ahead to put a cork in the bottle.
The chase ended when the man crashed the SUV. He was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries before being booked into Santa Barbara County jail on an array of charges.
Bail for his local crimes is set at $75,000 but his crimes and an outstanding in LA male him unavailable for bail. So, the Barney Oldfield wannabee is cooling his heels in the local lock-up.
