A woman has been arrested on suspicion of torture after a man was heard screaming in her apartment.

Kathlyne Smart, 46, is being held on $1 million bond.

Neighbors in Foothill Farms, near Sacramento, California called deputies who found the 41-year-old male victim in the apartment being held against his will.

Deputies don't know how long he was held but say the victim was beaten and burned.

"That's just creepy. He was beat up really bad...cuts and bruises all over his face," said neighbor Angela Moats. "That's just scary."

Deputies are not saying what the relationship is between the man and woman but neighbors say they moved into the apartment together about two weeks ago.
