Randy and Evi Quaid were in Santa Barbara Superior Court Monday pleading not guilty to defrauding an innkeeper. The case started last year when the Quaids reportedly left the snazzy San Ysidro Ranch / Resort in the Montecito foothills south of Santa Barbara

without paying their $10,000 tab. Monday’s hearing is the most recent in a chain of legal wrangling including their not showing up which got the judge’s underwear in a twist.
That judge issued a warrant and the Quaids were arrested and jailed in Texas.
Regardless they showed up in Santa Barbara Court Monday.

The incident electrified the unincorporated seaside enclave as Sheriff’s cars whizzed around the twisty roads, giving regulars at the local coffee spot lively joke material It’s a place with resident names like: Oprah, Whitman, Winters and Miller and a score of others ensconced in mutli-multi-million dollar houses behind big gates and big dogs.
Randy, brother of Dennis, is best known for his drunk crop duster role in the movie Independence Day. He also won a Golden Globe or something like that.

The Quaids are both charged and have each posted $20,000 bond. Monday’s hearing is reported to have been “odd” and “dicey” as their trial was pushed off til’ mid-April.
