FBI Using Electronic billboards to Catch "Granny Bandits."
Buoyed by the success of an electronic billboard campaign in catching a serial bank robber last year, the FBI is trying the tactic again to catch the "Granddad Bandit," suspected in 18 robberies in 12 states.
The "Granddad Bandit" is suspected in bank robberies in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The latter day Willie Sutton said “grandpap” is .between 50 or 60 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighs between 210 and 230 pounds. The suspect may be driving a silver sport utility vehicle."
A $10,000 reward is offered.
Last September, a man sought in at least 10 bank robberies in at least four states was arrested in Missouri. The FBI posted surveillance photos from the robberies on electronic billboards, a caught the man in Kingdom City, Missouri.
The "Granddad Bandit" is not the only middle-age bank robbery suspect. n Houston, Texas, a white woman 50-60 years old, 5’4”, 120 pounds wearing a salt and pepper wig dubbed "Bad Granny," is believed responsible for three recent robberies and attempted robberies of banks in the area.
A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to her arrest.
"Willie" Sutton (June 30, 1901 - November 2, 1980) was infamously known as America’s most prolific U.S. bank robber and famous for saying he robbed banks because “that’s where the money is.”. During his 40-year criminal career he stole an estimated $2 million.
