Olmypian's Widow Pleads Not Guilty to His Murder

Jane Laut, 52, accused murderer of 1984 Olympian shot putter and bronze medalist medalist husband Dave Laut, pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges in Ventura County Superior Court yesterday. Bond was not reduced from the $3 million set earlier.

Ron Bamieh, her attorney, said the death was a result of 29-years of abuse, and while she was willing to suffer in silence she was not willing to allow her son to be abused. Prosecutors said the murder was not a matter of self-defense.

The death occurred last August and according to the Santa Barbara News Press occurred when Dave Laut stumbled and Jane wrested a handgun from him and shot him after he has threatened their son and family dogs. None of that has been proved.
