Santa Barbara pot Dispensary shut down, owner and workers arrested

In the LA TIMES, January 12th, a medical marijuana dispensary and the arrest of the owner and 5 employees on a tip generated as a public complaint. Using an undercover officer to probe the allegations that state laws were violated regarding ID checks for their curs, these arrests were made.

The article also stated 281 doses of steroids and 65 pound of marijuana were discovered buried in a Santa Ynez backyard.

The 5 defendants were released on a Conditional OR (own recognizance), which means there are restrictions attached to their releases and they must obey the court’s order or suffer further punishment not disclosed as of this writing.

As the marijuana initiatives gain momentum in the state for legality, more arrests will take place as the
dust settles and law enforcement realizes it’s here to stay. The State Assembly just passed a proposal to legalize and tax marijuana under stiff objection by various law enforcement sectors; police chiefs and prosecutors. It is hard to imagine less than 20 years ago many were given harsh sentences to life for the sale and possession of marijuana.
